Pandora's Box

Slowly and stealthily,
She dragged it
In the dark of the street.
The wind whispered warnings
Aloof she walked, grinding
The stones under her feet.

In the still of the night,
In the silence of the sea,
She opened the empty box
To make ‘I’ of ‘we’.
To just breakaway
To just break free.

Kneeling in the water,
She threw in all his memories –
The sparkle of his voice
The twinkle of his eyes,
Torn pieces of beautiful moments
His virtues and his vice.

The box lay quiet
Taking in her fears,
Her piercing sharp thoughts,
The unrequited love she sought,
The nights of passion,
The feelings they taught.

Then she clenched the chest to her’s,
With all the fury and anguish,
She wept.
And wept, and wept.
Then folding her tears carefully
In the brimming box she kept.

She closed the box tight
And kicked it into the sea
Her Pandora’s Box – the box of troubles
Gone, will now never be
Within her
She – was free.

  4. i like the way you have written it, specially he idea of Pandora's box coz the way u have inversed the entire concept f it,... but i dont really see the point of lockin in only the good things about the relationships.. and then caling them the troubles of life.. i feel atleast some amount of negative feelings should also have been portrayed...

  5. For some, love is a long-strong chain that wraps them cramping their existence...but for some, love is a wall of support around them...perception is different and so is the expression....I love your thoughts and expressions,Nupur...beautiful...!

  6. thanx Vinay.. its the memories she's putting an end to, which can be good and bad. virtues and vices, both are spoken of. Also, when relationships end,its not like the good things then become troubles..remembering them causes pain, which makes it troublesome.
thanx Vyas aunty, interpretation is different too! i wrote this as liberation from love when relations end, but yes, there are people who seek it when still together..
